Seminar : Electoral Process in Bangladesh

The Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS) together with the Bangladesh Enterprise Insitute (BEI) organized a seminar titled “Electoral Process in Bangladesh: Violence as a Threat to Democratic Institutions” in partnership with the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) on 19 November 2013 at the Laurels Hotel in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

This seminar was attended by heads of civil societies, the diplomatic community, former ambassadors and defence personnel. The discussion explored the current political crisis faced by Bangladesh and the sources of conflict during this political impasse. Particular focus was given to violence occurring during pre-election, during elections and post-election times. At the end of the seminar, a series of recommendations were put forward by the participants to reduce current tensions and mitigate election related violence. This seminar was followed by a presentation of an academic paper on the same topic on 20 November 2013. This was organised jointly by Jahangirnagar University and RCSS and supported by GPPAC. This seminar was well attended by the faculty and students of the International Relations Department of the Jahangirnagar University.
