This report is based on the workshop titled “Armed Conflict in South Asia: Towards a Cooperative Framework for Preventive Action” which was organized by the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies in its capacity as the Regional Secretariat for GPPAC South Asia. The Regional Steering Group (RSG) for GPPAC South Asia, at its annual meeting in February 2011, had identified Preventive Action as a priority area that the regional network should focus on. RCSS fulfilled this stipulation by conducting the workshop on 3rd and 4th May 2012 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The general objective of the workshop was to establish a baseline of what work is being done to prevent conflicts in South Asian countries and to identify possible gaps in this regard.
