ANU-RCSS Certificate Course on South Asia

Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS), in collaboration with the Australia National University (ANU) offered a short course on South Asia, from the 8th-12th of September, 2016.

ANU provided 10-15 students, from Australia, the opportunity to study at the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS) in Colombo, Sri Lanka during the mid-semester break in September 2016, as part of ‘The South Asian Politics: Sri Lanka Study Tour‘. Students from Sri Lanka and South Asia also had the opportunity to apply for this course, which provides a comprehensive introduction to South Asia; gain a deeper understanding of the region; interact with the students from ANU and foster create long-lasting linkages with students outside of the country. A certificate was provided for all students who completed the course.

  • Colonial Legacy and Nationalist Discourses
  • Democracy and Democratization
  • South Asian Economies in the Age of Globalization
  • Religion and Politics in South Asia
  • Women Empowerment and the State of Insecurity
  • Terrorism: State and Non-State
  • Environment and Marginalization
  • South Asian Futures

The course was designed for undergraduates and postgraduates interested in international relations, politics, economics and other relevant fields of the social sciences. Diplomats, practitioners, activists, community organizers, advocates, academic researchers in government, non-government and higher-learning and research institutions, as well as public servants, military personnel and other interested persons were also encouraged to apply.
