Surichai Wun’ Gaeo

Dr. Surichai Wungaeo is a former director of the Master of International Development Studies program at Chulalongkorn University. Currently, he is a Director for the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies. Dr. Wungeo holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Tokyo, Japan.  After finishing his post-graduate studies at University of Tokyo, he has successively held various academic posts including Director, Chulalongkorn University Social Research Institute and visiting professorships at various universities including Hitotsubashi, University of Illinois-UC and Humbolt. He has been Professor of Sociology, Chulalongkorn University, since 2009. Ajarn Surichai is the current chair of Focus’ Board. He has written and published extensively on topics including rural society, cultures, alternative development paradigms, globalization and cultural identity.

Research interests: Sociology of development, environmentalism and sustainable development, social movements and people’s participation, endogenous social theory.
